Lu Xiaobo, born in 1959 in China, studied in industrial design at the Central Academy of Art and Design in China, today the Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University, where he is currently a professor. He was an advanced visiting student, among others, at University of Kassel in Germany and from 1990 to 1999 he was assistant professor and vice director of the Department of Industrial Design at Tsinghua University, and professor and director of the same department until 2002. From 2001 to 2003, Prof. Lu there served as vice dean, and from 2002 to 2005 as vice dean of the University’s Academy of Arts and Design. From 2005 to 2011, he has been the dean as well as executive director of the Research Centre of Arts & Science of Tsinghua University. In January 2012, he was appointed Dean of Academy of Arts and Design and also Director of the Research Centre of Arts and Sciences. He has also been a guest researcher at the Microsoft Corporation in Seattle, USA, and is currently working for Microsoft Research in Asia. He is vice president of the China Industrial Design Association, a member of numerous associations in China, as well as a frequent juror for international competitions.
