Ms. Zhang Sitian, the Creative Director and Chief Curator of the Red Dot Design Museum Xiamen (China), conducted an official tour. With an in-depth professional perspective, she guided the audience through the unique stories behind each design piece.
Welcome to the CO-Blossoming Society Exhibition, Embark on this journey of design, as we delve into the harmonious coexistence of humanity, nature, and society.
Zhouyi (The Book of Changes) states, "Shengsheng is Yi," referring to the fact that everything in heaven and earth is in a perpetual state of generation and change ("Shengsheng"), and that the interaction of yin and yang constitutes the intrinsic motivation of it. Nowadays, "Sheng Sheng" symbolizes the continuous development, creation and regeneration of society, in which design serves as a catalyst to advocate a dynamic balance and sustainable development model, which also echoes the expectations of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the common future of all mankind.
The exhibition brings together 68 innovative projects and cases from 26 countries and regions around the world, the four sections of "Diverse Individuals", "Dual Environment", "One Society", "Social Design Alliance" span a wide range of fields such as public space, educational innovation, environmental protection, health and medical care, animal welfare, rural revitalization, etc. From a perspective of design, the exhibition investigates how to use design thinking and methods to explore the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, humans and society, and to solve the complex challenges faced by society, care for vulnerable groups, promote environmental sustainability, cultural diversity, and harmonious coexistence of communities. Each work is the result of the wisdom of designers, architects, researchers, community members, administrators and others working as "social designers" in a broad sense, demonstrating the unique value of design in understanding needs, stimulating creativity, facilitating cooperation and realizing change.
CO-Blossoming Society—Social Design Exhibition 2024
Modern society is a complex ecosystem composed of countless diverse individuals. Each person carries a unique background, culture, experience and need, like different seeds, injecting infinite vitality and possibilities into the development of society. Design, as a creative problem-solving method, is about understanding and responding to this diversity, paying attention to the underprivileged and marginalized, bridging the gap between the individual and society, and helping people find their own unique way of growth.

Using simple technology and visual learning, they are opening up a world of experience for children confined to the camps.
Long house with an engawa
Design: Yamazaki Kentaro Design Workshop
Japen
This project is a welfare facility for the elderly. To realize an environment in which aging is not thought of in isolation from everyday life even with dementia or disability, it's also planned as a community base for welfare where the elderly, children, and locals can help each other in times of trouble, through the building design which resembles Japanese traditional porch "Engawa" where locals can drop in casually.
In the building, a veranda-like floor in a straight line welcoming the community with the main wooden structure and an open veranda that can be accessed in various ways. The building contains outdoor spaces between three main functions: a café and workshop, a “living room”, and a tatami room and bath.
"A Square" Action Graphics
Design:WangPing / A Sqare
China

CO-Blossoming Society—Social Design Exhibition 2024
From Rachel Carson's Silent Spring in 1962, which cried out about the global environmental crisis, to Victor Papanek's Design for the Real World in 1970, which first put forward the concept of design ethics, to the Club of Rome's The Limits to Growth in 1972, which pushed for the introduction of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a series of events have influenced the global awareness and attention to the environment and sustainable development.
Nowadays, the challenges of urban development and ecological balance constitute a complex and multi-dimensional status quo that we are facing. While creating objects, design is also constructing the relationship between human beings and the real world, prompting us to comprehensively scrutinize and reflect on the relationship between human beings and nature. Between seemingly opposing relationships, design creates intertwined perspectives, like freely spreading roots and leaves, for people to explore the way of coexistence.

The parameterized design process links the size of modules with the architectural features of the palace, creating a playful module cloud that adapts to the space. The journey from the courtyard to the garden is a 3D printed arched passage, with a gradient from wooden to semi transparent pixels in structure.
Natural Capital
Design: CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati
France
"Natural Capital" is a data visualization project created by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati in partnership with Eni during Milan Design Week, located in Milan's historic Botanical Garden of Brera.
The project, one of the largest data visualizations ever produced, highlights the crucial role of trees in absorbing and retaining carbon dioxide (CO2) by visually representing the CO2-capturing and storing capacity of each tree species using giant spheres. It underscores the significance of forest conservation over deforestation, as the removal of trees would lead to the release of a corresponding amount of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Angsila Oyster Scaffolding Pavillion
Design: CHAT architects
Thailand
The Angsila Oyster Scaffolding Pavilion aims to raise awareness and appreciation of the historic but little-known coastal fishing industry in the village of Angsila, in Chonburi Province. The pavilion design draws on and "bastardizes" the traditional and widely deployed bamboo scaffolding used for oyster cultivation.
In use, local fishermen bring small groups of visitors from Angsila to the pavilion where they can select their own oysters and mussels, which are then prepared fresh for them to eat …a sea-to-table dining experience in a remarkable coastal setting. This new dining experience allows the Angsila fisherman to present their seafood directly to the customers in an entirely new and interactive way. When not utilized as a dining pavilion for visitors, the oyster scaffolding serves as a recreational fishing platform for the locals.
