「Weaving the Future - 2025 Sustainable Design Exhibition」
“Weaving” is not only a metaphor for interdisciplinary collaboration, but also a common expectation of the collective consciousness. ‘Future’ does not give answers, but rather 69 threads of inquiry, and the exhibition invites every viewer to pick up the threads of inquiry and reconstruct the symbiotic relationship between man and nature, and man and society, in the gaps and crevices of the questions. The exhibition invites every audience to pick up the threads of inquiry and reconstruct the symbiotic relationship between man and nature, man and society in the gap of questions.
Highlights of the Exhibition Area
Prologue
Is sustainable living a middle-class game or a must for all?
「Weaving the Future - 2025 Sustainable Design Exhibition」
Here, we can see daily artifacts recycled from the genes of Sichuan, paintings recreated from the commercial waistcovers of books, exquisite dolls transformed from old skateboards, and tea-covered bowls made from discarded orange peels, etc., presenting thoughts on daily sustainable lifestyles through the pragmatic survival wisdom of ordinary people in the daily life. At the same time, the booth in the exhibition area is transformed from a decommissioned wooden hot pot table, which has become a container to carry the sample of life in Sichuan.
Chapter 1
Waste or Untapped Potential?
「Weaving the Future - 2025 Sustainable Design Exhibition」
In this section, we can see beautiful furniture made from coffee grounds and recycled plastic, 3D printed chairs made from recycled fishing nets and wood fibers, sneakers made from recycled oyster shells, plastic bottles, bamboo, and tea stems, and fishermen's helmets made from recycled seashells, etc. Through the display of many recycled household items, we are able to gain insights into the future trends of sustainable materials. By showcasing a wide range of recycled objects, and through insights into future trends in sustainable materials, the exhibition continues to ask: When we discard, what do we truly squander? Is it the raw materials or the boundary of imaginative capacity?
Chapter 2
Can Technology Undergo "Photosynthesis"?
「Weaving the Future - 2025 Sustainable Design Exhibition」
This section presents examples of new material technologies that convert light into heat, groundbreaking tongue-based computer controllers for people with disabilities, small robots that promote high agricultural yields through automation, and a low-cost wildfire detection system designed for remote communities, as well as sustainable food solutions through desalination of seawater and cultivation of algae. It makes us wonder if technology, in claiming to be an alternative to nature, should not first learn to be humble and live in harmony with nature.
Chapter 3
Will We Build Parks on Orbital Refuse Constellations In the Next Decade?
「Weaving the Future - 2025 Sustainable Design Exhibition」
This section focuses on the deeper propositions of cultural regeneration, social goodness and urban/rural renewal, where we can see cases such as a bamboo lamp that combines digital design with endangered weaving crafts, a pocket garden transformed from a discarded bicycle shed, a community playground that is co-created by children and perpetuates the memory and culture of the community, and a giant temporary installation composed of more than 500 recycled plastic mats, not only about cultural revitalization or land regeneration, but also a practice of public aesthetics about responsibility. This is not only about cultural revitalization or land regeneration, but also a public aesthetic practice of responsibility.
Chapter 4
What Can a Collective "Network Weaving" of Sustained Action Transform?
「Weaving the Future - 2025 Sustainable Design Exhibition」
The actions of Tsinghua University's Rural Revitalization Workstation, School of Design Arts, Hunan University, the “Changjiang Conservation Foundation”and “Xiamen Blue” are like a “capillary effect” that weaves a resilient and sustainable ecological network. From transforming unused houses in the countryside to empowering remote areas, these cross-border action alliances are redefining the identity of sustainable designers. At the same time, this exhibition area has a special “Sustainable Design Book Corner” under the dome of the Arcing Bamboo Pavilion installation, displaying classic sustainable books and “Island Hopping” specials on sustainable lifestyles, so that you may find a more realistic code of sustainable change in the academic propositions under the theoretical classics and the nature feast in the magazines.
